We are fortunate enough to own a small piece of Heaven in the N GA mountains. Our property contains a S, SE slope with good soil, good sun, rocky soil and good breezes. It’s also about 2200 ft above sea level. We are hopeful this microclimate will be loved by the vines and they will reward us with beautiful, bountiful grapes that can be turned into exquisite wines.
Unfortunately, our future vineyard area was overgrown with trees, shrubs and scrub. There were also some deep ruts that needed to be graded and leveled out. So, there was lots of work to be done to be ready for the vines.
Since this is our second home and we are two hours away, progress has been slow.
We purchased 24 vines from DoubleA Vineyards to be delivered the end of April, first of May 2015. We will receive 8 each of Norton (my favorite) , Chambourcin and Chardonnel.
