Weekend at the cabin and the weather was awesome. Saturday was sunny with a high of about 80 and Sunday was mostly cloudy, but still warm and not hot. I spent Saturday morning just cleaning up the vineyard and making the area for the Thinking Rock island as a small surprise for Mother’s Day.
Saturday afternoon was spent at leisure! E packed us a homemade pizza for lunch and we went to Crane Creek. We bought a bottle of Hellbender 2011 and spent several hours just soaking up the sun, having good conversation, laughing and walking the grounds of the vineyard. Oh and we drank some wine too! The vines at Crane Creek are waking up and have a good amount of green leaf. Their Norton has not quite awakened from Winter, but will soon.
We stopped at Home Depot on the way back and spent some more money. We got the shrubs and flowers for the new island, Blueberry food, some great red RustOleum paint for the gate and some hardware for the trellises.
Most of Sunday was spent in the vineyard constructing our new Blueberry patch. There is some good acid soil there already and I tilled in some pine needles, pine mulch and some good, decaying wood along with the blueberry fertilizer.
We bought 2 blueberry bushes from Double-A vineyards along with the grape vines and 1 O’Neal blueberry bush on a whim from Home Depot. We also had two blueberrys that were struggling where they were planted and I transplanted them to the new patch. Hoping and praying we’ll get some good production out of them.
E put a coat of paint on both sides of our gate and it looks good now and will look better when she second-coats it. I also put some flashing as a cap on the posts to help preserve them. I still need to do some work on the Geneva Double Curtain trellis, which will have to wait.
I love the weather station I received from our son as a Birthday gift. Seems to be working great with the wireless monitor up in the cabin and the rest of it in the vineyard. It will also give a prediction of upcoming weather.
