Primo Bacco Vinaio

One of my Birthday gifts from my wife. I love it. She’s getting creative!

Here is his story:

Primo Bacco Vinaio (Preemo Bahko Vi NAY-o)

Meet Roman general Primo Bacco Vinaio.  His name is very symbolic – Primo (first), Bacco (Italian for Bacchus, the Roman god of agriculture, harvest and wine (also debauchery and fertility!) and Vinaio (vintner).

His helmet topper is representative of the many abundant grape vines in his region, which he proudly protects.  The decorative brass emblem with red jewel on the front is for the favored wine of his region, red of course!  The blue on the back piece of his helmet represents the beautiful blue skies under which the grapes thrive.

His “breastplate” also stands for the blue skies as well as some cloudiness, without which there would be no rain for the abundant harvest.

Most importantly, the silver heart represents a heart filled with passion for all that he truly loves:  his family, his country and his wine of course!!
