We had a nice relaxing weekend for Independence Day with my Mom & Dad coming to spend the weekend with us. We were able to go to a concert at Crane Creek and fireworks at Meeks park. The weather was very rainy but cooperated nicely by raining in the morning and early afternoon and then stopping in time for both events. We got about 1/2 inch of rain both Saturday and Sunday. Great for the vines!
The Japanese beetle invasion has slowed since I applied the liquid Sevin last week. I re-applied Sunday before we left, but more rain will wash it right off. Keeping my fingers crossed that the bulk of their 30-40 day lifespan is over.
I was able to (finally) plant the rose on the end of the Norton row and the Lavender plants on the end of the Chambourcin row. See pics below. I decided against the 2nd rose on the Chardonnel row since room was an issue.
There are 13 out of 24 vines that have grown above the 30″ grow tubes! My Norton #3 that was re-planted is doing very well, outshining Norton #4.
The Whiff anti-deer soaps have been doing a good job keeping the deer at bay.
All is well, just need rain & sunshine!
