Vineyard Progress
Here are pics of our progress on clearing and planting the vineyard site.
Wow, what a nice weekend in PS! We had Matt & Kristin over for dinner Saturday night. A rousing time was had by all during the evening domino game. And we got to see Jennie Sunday morning for a nice visit. I also built a rolling stand for my newest toy – the Fast Fermentor. I’m excited about
I have decided to name the vineyard “Blue Sky Vineyard”. The Skeenah Gap Winery name will remain. The Blue Sky is in honor of 2 things: One: The great, big beautiful blue sky that seems to almost always be in these mountains. So many days with no clouds, no haze & no smog. Makes you
October – The vines slowing down. Had our first deer damage where they ate every leaf on a couple vines. [Show thumbnails] l November – The leaves starting to turn, getting ready for winter. [Show thumbnails]
October – Finally tackled the left side of the driveway entrance. A base made up of pieces of Skeenah Gap Rd with a rock top held together with lots of concrete. Should outlive me. When Spring gets here the middle will be filled with decorative low growing ground cover. DSC02579.JPG ◄ Back Next ► Picture 1
Did some close observations taking notes about each vine. Overall pretty pleased with the progress. I am going to have to study hard about pruning techniques so I don’t screw these up. The #6 vine in each row is the poorest growing, smallest vine. Maybe the hardpan runs underneath these. These 3 vines will need
WOW, just WOW. It’s been 2 weeks since we were in the vineyard, and some of the prolific vines have grown 12-14 inches each. Take a look at some of those pics. Keep in mind the posts are 6 feet tall. I killed one Japanese beetle, but he must have been a lone survivor kamikaze
Ahhh, the vines are looking good this weekend. Some have grown so much that I have had to do a lot of tying up. Some are still struggling to break out of the grow tubes. I am seriously worried about Norton # 5, which is small and a little sickly looking. Norton’s are supposed to
Well, the Japanese beetles came back very hungry. Since I can only spray on the weekend when we’re there, it gets washed off during the first rain and allows the beetles free rein. So, I sprayed again and we’ll see how it goes. Most of the vines are doing great, with 21 out of 24 vines
Another beautiful weekend in the mountains. I finally got the Geneva Double Curtain trellis finished. Norton row w/ GDC trellis ◄ Back Next ► Picture 1 of 8
